The State of Michigan, through the Michigan Department of Environment Great Lakes & Energy (EGLE), has quite possibly made the most important commitments to recycling since the bottle deposit law. EGLE has launched several recycling programs designed to improve the material recovery rate from 18% today to a 45% goal that is targeting 2.7M more tons of waste to be recycled or upcycled. Additionally, by diverting this volume of waste from landfills, Michigan stands to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by mTCO2e tons at the 45% goal.
Centrepolis is supporting this mission, serving as a partner on EGLE’s NextCycle Michigan program, led by Resource Recycling Systems (RRS), also in collaboration with the Michigan Recycling Coalition. NextCycle Michigan provides an opportunity for businesses, investors, NGOs, trade organizations, and others to contribute significantly to the growth of recycling and the circular economy in Michigan. The program offers grants for projects that divert waste streams from landfills in Michigan.
Grant applications are open now for two Innovation Challenges, please let us know if you have any questions...
