Bob founded and was the CEO of Bedzyk Bros., Inc. (BBI) for over 30 years. BBI was a full-service general contractor, construction manager and design/build firm.
After retiring from BBI in 2014, Bob shifted gears to his longtime passion, sustainability and energy-savings, resulting from witnessing so much shortsightedness by building owners and operators. His zealous interest in new technology has led him to the Centrepolis Accelerator with the desire to fuel the growth of Southeast Michigan’s position in making the world’s environment and buildings more sustainable and energy efficient.
Bob has been a M-LAB / Board member since 2014 leading the USGBC-Detroit Chapter (U.S. Green Building Council); and past Treasurer & Commercial Real Estate Committee Co-Chairman. USGBC’s mission is to transform the way buildings and communities are designed, built and operated, enabling an environmentally and socially responsible, healthy, and prosperous environment that improves the quality of life.
He received his LEED® AP (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design - Accredited Professional) designation in 2009. LEED is the most widely used green building rating system in the world. Available for virtually all building types, LEED provides a framework for healthy, highly efficient, and cost-saving green buildings. LEED certification is a globally recognized symbol of sustainability achievement and leadership.
Recently, he has volunteered with the Detroit 2030 District as an Ambassador and in Outreach fund-raising. The vision of the 2030 Districts Network is to establish a global network of thriving high performance building districts and cities, uniting communities to catalyze transformation in the built environment and the role it plays in mitigating and adapting to climate change.
Besides sustainability, Bob also assists building owners with their construction projects as an Owners Rep in an effort to make the process successful and help avoid costly errors prevalent in the design and construction industry. He is also involved in advancing a number of sustainable ventures related to solar, geothermal, HVAC, electrical and water conservation.
A native of the Detroit area, Bob holds a BS degree in Civil Engineering from Michigan State University and current Builder’s, Mechanical and Real Estate Broker’s Licenses, along with being a member of ASCE (American Society of Civil Engineers). Former U.S. Limited Securities License 22L, along with real estate investment concentration (Real Estate Investment Analysis / Wharton School, and Institute of Real Estate Management REM-301).
