Southfield Michigan Works!
Southfield Michigan Works! is a service center in Oakland county that manages the following programs for local employers and candidates seeking jobs. The Employment Services programs provide access to and guidance on using the Pure Michigan Talent Connect platform and other talent services such as job search resources, technology/social media support, job workshops and events, career management, training programs, educational resources and veteran’s services. The Partnership, Accountability, Training, Hope (PATH) program is designed to help low-income individuals families get good paying jobs that will empower them to move out of poverty and become self sustaining, long term. These program services include assistance with job placement, job readiness, remedial education, training, ongoing post-employment support and more. The Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) program helps trade-affected workers return to employment as quickly as possible through income support, relocation allowances and job search allowances. The Workforce Investment Act (WIA) program provides workforce investment activities to help increase employment, retention and earnings to boost the economy. This program offers a range of services from job leads, to individualized counseling, to occupational skills training.
LTU Collaboratory
The LTU Collaboratory is a hands-on resource center that resulted from the City of Southfield working with Lawrence Technological University to foster increase business growth in the surrounding area. This state-of-the-art environment for innovation helps entrepreneurs and start-up companies evolve and market their ideas through a variety of educational, networking and mentoring resources and programs. The CEO Engage program gives growth-focused companies grossing $2-100M annually opportunities to connect with a media advocate, attend leadership networking events that discuss critical topics for CEOS and attend their summit. The Customers to Cash (C2C) program helps companies launch their products in new or existing markets through the use of new technologies, methodologies, collaborative ideation and innovative design thinking. The Professional Development Series program helps businesses attract and retain talent by providing guidance on how to approach strategic planning, project management, lean principles, interpersonal communication, effective problem solving, business writing, financing, conflict resolution, presentations and grant writing.
Southfield Area Chamber of Commerce
The Southfield Area Chamber of Commerce works with the City of Southfield and business community to create connections that inspire business growth. They are a great place for finding social and educational events, keeping up with important news and connecting with Southfield Young Professionals. Their website offers an array of Southfield resources, a directory of businesses, a schedule of upcoming local events and an application to become a member.
